What Should Be Valued More - Skilled Education or Certificates/Degrees?

Most of us have questioned ourselves “Why is a degree important in life?”, “Do I really require a college degree to be employed?”, “Does success always mean to first achieve a degree?” and so on. So here we are, to answer this for you and to address one of the most exciting questions, Skilled Education Or Certificates/Degrees. What is it that must be valued more?

First of all, what does Skill Education mean? Vocational Education And Training, a popular name given to skill education prepares students for occupations that focus on manual or practical tasks, typically non-academic and connected directly to a specific trade , profession or vocation, thus the term in which the learner participates. It is also sometimes referred to as technical education, as the learner gains knowledge directly within a limited category of techniques or technology. Now why should we value this kind of education? It is essential that the youth of today have to be skilled to get a job because having skills is very necessary to imagine a bright future for a country. We often face difficulties nowadays whenever an individual is knowledgeable  ut not skilled enough to do a given job. Hence, education in skills becomes essential. Then why should we even compare it to the degrees and certificates? Simply because a degree is a valid credential which confirms that the candidate has the knowledge of the job requirements and the capacity to perform the job and justify the post.

So what is all this comparison about? A degree is nothing but qualified abilities documents in the person. Any individual with the ability can not succeed in obtaining the grade. Similarly, not every holder of a degree is necessarily eligible. Degree and skill perfectly define the phrase "two sides of the same coin". A person needs to have a degree along with the skills to succeed in life. Similarly, without the skill a degree will be as useless as skills without the degree. To become the survival of the fittest, both need to go hand-in - hand. A degree makes that person more assured about his or her approach and perspectives. Such aspects are an important part of changing personality. An argument is also that a degree earns its owner respect and social prestige. An individual is examined by his or her credentials, which is reflected in his or her degree. In addition, it promotes the position of the person. The more advanced the degree, the stronger the post and position will be. While education for the purpose of achieving a degree, on the other hand, is not desirable considering the spike in educated unemployment in the country, which demands for more analysis on what drives the educational goals and objectives at individual and at the higher levels. Achievement of a degree is definitely a sign of formal education but just obtaining a degree no longer guarantees individual development , social harmony or income stability.

Skill is an abstract notion that can not be assessed just on a few pieces of paper. It is a huge array, trained within a person and fostered by the repeated functional consequences of life.

Undoubtedly a degree will give the person a job, but without the skills it can't help him/her to develop further. Skill draws employers, investors and executives who can either elevate or drop the individual. The individual would not be able to catch hold of their superiors attention and achieve success without the skills and expertise .

Finally what is the solution to this whole debate?

To put this in one sentence, it is not always intelligence that counts in our society, but the desire to do anything and everything is what can guarantee jobs. Education today needs to be based on skills rather than knowledge alone. Institutions must teach students how to think rather than what to think. They have to promote technical training and skills. Development of skills should be emphasized while acquiring School Education, as it is necessary to establish skill training from an early age itself.

How can this actually be done? If that’s the question that is really stopping us to reform our education system then simple approaches and improvements such as providing choices for skills development programs at school level in secondary education, including courses in areas such as hotel industry, handicraft, health, textiles, art, food, marketing, banking , insurance that can be added to interest the learners, and finally making teaching and learning practical through fieldwork, Online Learning, industry-oriented assignments, multimedia inputs and such enhanced learning techniques can transform the students into some of the finest beings, both theoretically knowledgeable and skilled!

Education just for sake of information and its development finally leading to learners self- actualization must be at the core of wider learning objectives, which must also be represented in its smaller objectives. Not only must it conform to human , social, internal or national needs but it must also respond effectively to the person reality and ambitions. Therefore, we can conclude by saying that a degree may be the first step on the ladder which leads to success in life but is not the only step!
