Global Malady of Covid-19

As we’re almost being succumbed to what feels like forever into a lockdown, Coronavirus is right now the most talked about topic in the society of humans. Be it memes (new opportunities for Instagrammers to get followers), home workout videos (boosting career for YouTubers), or just economists who are apprehensive about the impending economic crisis; Coronavirus for good or for bad is on everybody’s minds (and maybe inside some of them!)

So what is coronavirus? How worse can the disease affect you? Do bats spread it? Is China to be blamed?

Coronavirus is a group of viruses with some common characteristics and showing the same symptoms when a human gets affected by them. On the other Covid-19 is the name of the disease that coronavirus causes. In simple terms, Covid-19 is just the full form of “Disease caused due to Coronavirus in the year 2019”. Another example is SARS which came around 2001-2003 in North America and even some common cold cases are caused by Coronaviruses.

Covid-19 can merely show any symptoms for 13-14 days or very mild symptoms, a fever is the most common symptom and not even a high fever, in most cases fever of around 104 F exists. Covid-19 has been mostly related to pneumonia-like symptoms therefore the disease is seen to often affect the lower respiratory system. While fatigue, dry cough, and shortness of breath are the most common symptoms, the worst cases of Covid-19 have been seen to have blood-filled in their lungs also seen typically in pneumonia patients.

Now they're a lot of speculations on somehow China being related to the spread of the virus. At first Chinese people were pointed out for their cultural habits of eating various animals. Though the habit of eating animals is not supported her, I’ll like to point out that there’s no clear evidence that it did come from bats but the only hypothesis based on the mere fact that the virus is a 96% match with the viruses found in bats which is weak evidence compared to SARS in which 100% match was found in pigs. As said by Chiropterologist(Bats) Dr. Merlin Tuttle, that even we humans and chimpanzees have a 96% match that does not makes us chimpanzees.

On that note I wish everybody to stay safe, stay home, and don’t panic, we’re going to get through this.
