Corona Update: What You Need to Know

It's been a while since I last wrote an update about Corona and its future, but we've been busy behind the scenes. We wanted to take some time and let the dust settle before communicating anything further — we're happy with how our business has grown and we're excited about where we're going! Here are some updates:

Corona Enterprise is now free for all existing customers

For those of you who have already paid for Corona Enterprise (both existing customers and new sign-ups), it will become completely free on March 1st. That includes everything in our Enterprise Edition product along with the full set of features currently only available to enterprise subscribers. This change doesn't affect any of our current customers—you'll continue to receive support, updates, and new features as usual.

New subscribers can now use Enterprise Features for free!

Additionally, we're happy to announce that all new Corona Enterprise subscriptions will be able to sign up and use the product at no cost for one year. If you've been thinking about signing up for a subscription but aren't sure about paying $49/month, this offer allows you to try out our most advanced edition with no commitment whatsoever. You'll get access to Pro Edition features such as App Preview and In-App Purchase along with the full set of enterprise-only features we currently have available — including support for Lua modules written in C++ and native Android extension packages (NDK).

If you already have a Corona Enterprise subscription: great news! We'll be upgrading all of you to a perpetual license at no additional charge. That means that once your current renewal period ends, you'll have the option to renew or update your license to become perpetual and continue using your subscription as long as you'd like.

If you're already a Corona Enterprise customer: nothing will change for you — we've been keeping track of who has renewed their subscription each month so we know exactly what each customer's renewal date is. If you haven't received an email from us about this change, you should expect one soon! We were planning on sending out a notice sometime this week if no emails had been sent by today. As long as there are many customers still on a paid plan after March 1st, those customers will receive a perpetual license. If you don't hear from us by the end of February, that means we've already upgraded your account!

What's next?

In addition to making Corona Enterprise free for existing customers and new sign-ups, we're also working hard on improving our core product even further — with entirely new features such as Live Builds, which allows app developers to upload updates directly to devices without going through Apple/Google's submission process (same goes for Android on Google Play). We'll be releasing more information about this in the coming months — stay tuned!

There are a lot more things we'd like to talk about soon: iOS 8 and Android L support (iOS 8 is pretty much done internally; L has just started and we're looking forward to giving you an early look!), new products (we've been working on some other things that we think you'll find very useful), and more! Thanks for your patience as we keep growing and improving.
